Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Tony Ilube, Imbolo Mbue, and Trevor Noah made the list of “100 Most Influential Africans of 2017” curated by The New African magazine.
The New African is a magazine that provides insights and analysis on African politics and economics. The publication, which is 45 years old, gives in-depth monthly reports bringing Africa closer to the world. When the magazine turned 40, it came up with the concept “The 100 Most Influential Africans” where they would list those who they considered the biggest movers and shakers on the continent. The list was a good gauge on what the continent had gone through over the year that had just passed and its players.
The New African have unveiled their list of most influential Africans for 2017 and as is usual, they listed worthies from all over the continent from the various fields. This year, the number of people in the publishing isn’t as healthy as in 2016 when there were many names. The list of four are;
- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Chimamanda Adichie who is still killing it even though her last novel Americanah came out in 2013. She tided us over the last four years with a letter that was converted into a book called Dear Ijeawele, Or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions which came out in March.
- Imbolo Mbue
Someone whose novel more recently was Imbolo Mbue whose book Behold The Dreamers came out in August 2016 and was all over the place in the African literary scene. That book even made the Oprah book club which is no small feat.
- Trevor Noah
Then there is comedian Trevor Noah who unleashed a memoir Born a Crime in November 2016 proving that he is not just a masterful comedian but a competent writer of creative nonfiction.
- Tony Ilube
The last person on the list is Tony Ilube who is famous as a Tech entrepreneur and educationist but we mention before he decided to fund the Nommo Awards for four years. That’s influence if you ask us.
