Afrolit Sans Frontières Season 3, the third iteration of the virtual literary festival, was hosted over the Internet from May 25 to June 1.
Afrolit Sans Frontières, a virtual literary festival for writers of African origin, started as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic international lockdown. Season 1, curated by founder Zukiswa Wanner ran from March 23-30 while Season 2 co-curated by the founder and Maaza Mengiste ran from April 20-27, 2020.
Season 3, with curation by Mohale Mashigo and Zukiswa Wanner, featured 16 writers from 13 countries streaming from 15 cities in English, French, and Portuguese from May 25 to June 1. All sessions ran twice daily on the official Afrolit Sans Frontières Instagram page. It was eight days of writers sharing their books and the experiences of writing them with readers and other writers in an atmosphere of camaraderie, laughter, and even, at times, complete silliness. It was a rare balm for many still cooped up in homes across the planet first as a result of a pandemic and then when protests dominated global headlines after the murder of Black American George Floyd at the hands of policemen in the USA.
