Afrolit Sans Frontieres writers.

A snapshot of Afrolit Sans Frontières Season 1.

Afrolit Sans Frontières was hosted by African writers from cities around the world from Monday, March 23 to Monday, March 30, 2020.

The Afrolit Sans Frontiers Virtual Literary Festival is an initiative from writers of African origin curated by Zukiswa Wanner. Sixteen writers from 10 African countries shared their own original work from 15 different cities in English, French, Lingala, and Portuguese to a global virtual audience online over eight days.

The festival format was writers reading sex scenes from their work at the official festival Instagram page if possible. Some of the writers were more comfortable using Facebook. When they had finished their readings, they fielded questions from the online audience about anything like the writing craft, their favourite writers or books, and whether they preferred Poetry or Cocaine (Prosecco or Roset).

Here are links to the sessions with the 16 writers who streamed from cities around the world.

  9. […] South African Author and Journalist Zukiswa Wanner, a Kenyan resident, has been one busy person. From 23rd March to 30th March 2020, when Kenya had already confirmed Covid-19 cases, Zukiswa curated the Afrolit Sans Frontières Virtual Literary Festival. The name probably inspired by the well-known Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) Medical Humanitarian Organization, this virtual festival indeed lived up to its intent to cross borders during this time of social distancing, partial and total lockdowns in many countries, by hosting 16 African Writers drawn from 10 African countries. These Writers in 15 different cities were given a virtual platform to share their original work to a global audience in a vibrant mélange of English, French, Lingala and Portuguese languages.
