Abantu Book Festival 2019 makes annual appeal for support.

The Abantu Book Festival 2019 has started its run for fundraising with its annual appeal for support from the abantu.

The Abantu Book Festival in 2018 was bigger and better than previous years with Black people in South Africa getting their safe space to commune at the festival venues of the Eyethu Lifestyle Centre and the Soweto Theatre. Panel sessions, movies, concerts, and book launches were interspersed with books for sale and general joyous blackness.

The team running the Abantu Book Festival, who have been doing an amazing job hosting for the last three years, is already hard at work fundraising for the 2019 edition. It’s only right to do this as it takes a helluva lot of cash to run these types of events and the earlier you start the better.

Following in a tradition started in 2017, the organisers have made an appeal for those who want to support the festival with cold hard cash. The plan is to recruit up to 1000 new patrons, each donating R50 per month x 12 months (= R600), amounting to R600 000 in total. You would either give a once-off contribution of R600, or arrange a monthly Standing Order of R50. These funds are earmarked for production expenses, while the organisation source sponsorship proper. Your donation comes with several, small benefits e.g. complimentary merchandise, social media shout-outs, listing in the festival catalogue and website.
