Botswana’s Companies and Intellectual Property Authority and Kenya’s eKitabu are on the Accessible Books Consortium Accessibility Awards 2019 shortlist announced on February 14, 2019.
The World Intellectual Property Organization launched the Accessible Books Consortium to boost the number of books in accessible formats for people around the globe who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise print disabled in 2014. To ensure they met their goals they launched the Accessible Books Consortium International Excellence Awards to recognise outstanding leadership and achievements in advancing the accessibility of commercial e-books or other digital publications for persons who are print disabled. The awards are presented annually at the London Book Fair.
The awards announced those who they felt met their criteria this Valentine’s Day with shortlistees in the categories of publisher and an initiative with a commitment to making content available in accessible formats. They also ensured accessibility standards built into production systems to make books accessible as well as innovative practices to advance the accessibility of e-books and digital publications for persons who are print disabled.
Those in the running for the awards this year include Botswana’s Companies and Intellectual Property Authority and Kenya’s eKitabu. The full list of those shortlisted are;
