The tenth African Women Writers Symposium 2024 will be held in Johannesburg on Saturday, October 20 and 26, 2024.
The African Women Writers Network has hosted symposia to bring together African women writers to engage in a dialogue about African women’s writing since 2010. These symposia are also aimed at establishing a network of African women writers, highlighting the challenges of women on the African continent and in the African Diaspora, encouraging the emergence of a Pan-African women’s voice and continent-wide projects to strengthen the women’s role in the literary arts, showcase African women writers in performance, and promote African women’s writing to a South African readership and audience. Some participants have been Nawal El Saadawi, Nadine Gordimer, Jayne Cortez, Miriam Tlali, Mona Eltahawy, Diana Ferrus, Kadija Sessay, Koleka Putuma, Barbara Schreiner, Shailja Patel, Aja Monet, and Samira Negrouche, amongst others.
