Season 4 of Afrolit Sans Frontieres, the last edition of the festival for the year, runs from June 29 to July 6, 2020. The theme is “To Cut A Long Story Short.”
Afrolit Sans Frontières, a virtual literary festival for writers of African origin, started as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic international lockdown in March. Its format has been sessions ran twice daily on the official Afrolit Sans Frontières Instagram page. Each session has a featured writer hosted by a moderator who guides them with their own questions as well as those from the audience.
Season 1, curated by festival founder Zukiswa Wanner, ran from March 23-30. It had 16 writers from 10 African countries sharing their work from 15 different cities in English, French, Lingala, or Portuguese. The festival theme was sex.
Season 2, co-curated by Zukiswa Wanner and Maaza Mengiste, ran from April 20-27. It had 16 writers from 14 countries streaming from 13 cities in English, French, or Portuguese. The festival theme was “What I Wish You’d Ask Me.”
Season 3 co-curated by Mohale Mashigo and Zukiswa Wanner ran from May 25 – June 1. It featured 16 writers from 13 countries streaming from 15 cities in English, French, and Portuguese. The festival theme was “Past. Present. Future.”
Season 4 promises the same high jinks we have come to expect with writers engaging with passionate commenters giving their opinions on every topic imaginable. This iteration, which organisers say is the last as the world starts opening up, runs from June 29 to July 6, 2020. The theme is “To Cut A Long Story Short” and will be heavy on short story writers and poets.
The writers taking part in the festival will be revealed closer to the dates.
