“Black Magic,” the theme for Ake Arts & Book Festival 2020 to take place announced in Lagos, Nigeria from October 22-25, was announced on January 23, 2020.
The Ake Arts & Book Festival, known universally as the Ake Festival, first ran in the city of Abeokuta, Nigeria in 2012. The festival, a production of the Lola Shoneyin led Bookbuzz Foundation which then moved to Lagos in 2018, has gone on to become one of the most recognised brands on the African literary circuit. It has hosted dozens of the top writers in Africa with eminent personalities like Wole Soyinka, Niyi Osundare, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o, Ama Ata Aidoo, Nuruddin Farah, and Tsitsi Dangarembga as headliners.
The festival organisers have today announced the theme for its 2020 edition which, like last year, will be hosted at the Alliance Francaise in Lagos. The theme for the Sterling Bank-sponsored affair is “Black Magic” as shared on their Twitter.
