So thus November will be one of those African literary festival-heavy months and the biggest events will be happening in Nigeria. Two of these will be the Lagos Books and Arts Festival (Labaf) and the Ake Arts and Book Festival which will be happening in Abeokuta.
The Ake Festival is the younger of the two festivals but it has come in huge strides in its three years with everyone wanting to be associated with it. The organisers of the event have cottoned onto this by announcing a new prize; The Ake Festival/Air France Prize. This prize will give three young Africans who want in on the action to attend the Ake Arts and Book Festival. All they need to do is to submit either prose or photography to the organisers and they could win what is currently considered a once-in-a-time opportunity.
The selected folks will win EUR200 in prize money, a return ticket to Lagos, Nigeria, Free ground transportation from and to the airport, free Accommodation at a 3* hotel that is a short walk from the festival venue, a free All-event Pass, a short feature at the Ake Festival Opening Ceremony. You will also get a plaque presented by Ake Festival/ Air France at the opening ceremony and your work featured in the Ake Review 2015.
The judges of the competition are Tendai Huchu and Ayodele Morocco-Clarke for the English prose prize while Pierre Cherruau and Edwidge Dro are judging the French prose prize. The photography prize is being judged by Andrew Esiebo and Florian Plaucheur.
