DR Congo’s Fiston Mwanza Mujila and Angola’s José Eduardo Agualusa made the Man Booker International Prize longlist that was announced today.
The longlisted two join the last 13 books of 155 books gunning to win the prize dedicated to celebrating the finest in global fiction. The prize is sponsored by Man Group, one of the world’s largest independent alternative investment managers,
Fiston Mwanza Mujila has been flying the flag high for DR Congo with his debut novel Tram 83 which is also on the shortlist for this year’s Etisalat Prize for Africa Literature to be handed out next Sunday. José Eduardo Agualusa’s entry is for his novel A General Theory of Oblivion.

The judges will announce a shortlist of six books on 14 April with each author and translator receiving £1,000. They judges include the chair Boyd Tonkin a senior writer on The Independent, anthropologist and novelist Tahmima Anam, academic David Bellos, editor and academic Daniel Medin and prize-winning British poet and author Ruth Padel.
The winner of the 2016 Prize will be announced on 16 May at a formal dinner at the V & A, with the £50,000 prize being divided equally between the author and the translator of the winning entry.
