ArabLit Story Prize 2019 shortlist unveiled.

The shortlist for the ArabLit Story Prize 2019 was announced on Sunday, September 15, 2019.

The ArabLit Story Prize is an award celebrating the best short stories, in any genre, newly translated from Arabic into English. The prize was founded in 2018 by Arablit.org, a leading resource on Arab literature. The first edition of the prize, judged by Maan Abu Taleb, Thoraya El Rayyes, and Ruqaya Izzidien, was won by Egyptian writer Mohammad Abdelnabi for Our Story translated by Robin Moger.

The cycle for this year’s prize started when judges Nariman Youssef, Jana Elhassan, and Adam Talib were unveiled on March 1. The team running the prize have announced the shortlist and they are;

• The Charcoal Garden by Mohamed Al-Ashry, translated by Roger Allen.
• The Sharp Bend at Al-Bakur by Najwa Bin Shatwan, translated by Sawad Hussain.
• The Illusion of Sea written and translated by Mahmoud Hosny.
• The Sarcophagus Maker’s Daughter by Samar Nour, translated by Enas El-Torky.

The winner will be announced on October 15, 2019. The winning author and translator will split the $500 prize.
