The finalists for the Audie Awards 2023 were announced on Thursday, February 23, 2023. Here are the writers of African descent who made the cut.
The Audie Awards have been awarded annually by the American Audio Publishers Association for audiobooks and spoken-word entertainment since 1996. Some of the awards given relate to types of writing, including abridged and unabridged fiction and non-fiction, and such genres as romance, fantasy and mystery; other awards recognize excellence in different styles of narration and production, such as multi-voiced performance and production values.
The finalists for the 2023 edition of the awards were announced yesterday in a variety of categories. Here is a sample of writers of African descent among them;
Audiobook of the year
- The 1619 Project, created by Nikole Hannah-Jones and The New York Times Magazine Edited by Caitlin Roper, Ilena Silverman, and Jake Silverstein.
- Finding Me, written and narrated by Viola Davis, Published by HarperAudio
- Stuntboy, In The Meantime, Jason Reynolds, Published by Simon & Schuster Audio
Audio Drama Finalists
- Pipeline, Dominique Morisseau, Published by L.A. Theatre Works
Autobiography/Memoir Finalists
- Unprotected: A Memoir, written and narrated by Billy Porter Published by Recorded Books, a division of RBmedia
History/Biography Finalists
- An Afro-Indigenous History of the United States, Kyle T. Mays Narrated by Shaun Taylor-Corbett, Published by Beacon Press Audio
