25 men and women were on hand last Friday for the second edition of the Authors Buffet where authors get an opportunity to bond with their fans and vice versa.
The event happened at the Sarit Centre on the sidelines of the Nairobi International Book Fair which was brilliant. Brilliant as the with the fair happening it allowed for book lovers to interact with the people who put pen to paper and write books.
The event was sessions with the writers presenting some of their books to the audience and here are some of the more well-known names who brought us their work as well as their titles.
- John Sibi-Okumu – Tom Mboya: Master of Mass Management
- David Mulwa – We Come in Peace.
- Muthoni Likimani – Fighting without ceasing.
- Churchill Winstone – From Hawker to Banker.
- Arwings Otieno – A taste of fame
- Zukiswa Wanner – Maid in SA.
Away from the presentations, it allowed some of us to espy some of the writers for the first time like Argwings Otieno who had just won a cool million bob the Friday before at the Burt Awards. Also, a personal favourite was David Mulwa who is famous in Kenya for his acting; usually as a father figure in many TV shows. Also, there was one of my favourite writers Nganga Mbugua who was at the time hoping to win the Jomo Kenyatta Literature Foundation for his book Different Colours. The winner of it all was Henry Ole Kulet.
The event came to light from the efforts of Banker/author Kinyanjui Kombani and his team including other writers. He is famous for The Last Villains of Molo but having read his most recent one Den of Inequity I promise you that you will forget Villains very fast. That book shall change the narrative of Kenyan literature very fast.
Kudos to the organisers.
