Babishai Poetry Festival 2018 for Mbale, Uganda in August

The Babishai Poetry Festival 2018, the fourth edition of the festival, is set to happen in Mbale, Uganda on August 3-6, 2018.

The first edition of the Babishai Poetry Festival, founded by Beverley Nambozo Nsengiyunva, was hosted in Kampala in 2015. It was a natural move up for the Babishai Niwe Poetry Prize that was born in the East African capital. The festival would go on to be hosted every year since with poets from the breadth of the continent and even further afield making their way Uganda. Some of the guests who have featured in this festival include Philippa Namutebi Kabali-Kagwa, Oswald Okaitei, Mbizo Chirasha, Kagayi Peter, Kariuki wa Nyamu, Tom Kip Jalio, and Rap Poet.

The newest edition of the Babishai Poetry Festival is set for August 3-6 and there will be a change of venue as it is hosted in Mbale in Eastern Uganda. The festival is hoping to attract those who have a bit of an adventurous spirit as they will get to a poetry excursion right at the Sipi Falls. The Sipi Falls, one of the most beautiful natural sights in Uganda, are not a single waterfall but three levels with the top two levels emerging as the most beautiful. So you those who get to poet AND to tourist which is as good as it gets.

It will cost you some money to be one of the guests. The prize for those who attend is;

  • Early registration per individual by May 31 2018 250 USD
  • A non-refundable commitment fee by April 30 2018 100 USD
  • Late registration fee 350 USD

Fees include return transport from Kampala, accommodation of 4 nights, all meals, tour fees, a T-shirt and hat, poetry experience and entertainment from Bamasaaba performers. Deadline for all payments is June 29 2018.
