Brazilian International Colloquium on Negritude and Literature starts November 5

Colóquio Internacional Negritude e Literatura, celebrating Afro-Brazilian portal Literafro will be hosted in Minas Gerais, Brazil from November 5 – 7, 2024.

Literafro, founded by Eduardo de Assis Duarte, is a portal of Afro-Brazilian literature active online since December 13, 2004. Its founders and current managers are professors and researchers from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and other institutions, members of the research group “Literafro – Portal of Afro-Brazilian literature: network research”. From 2020, the portal was a member of GEED, a Study Group of Diasporic Aesthetics focused on research into African and Afro-diasporic literature. The virtual space allows thousands to access over 100 articles, interviews, and other critical texts made available to the entire Portuguese-speaking world.

Starting November 5, Literafro will celebrate two decades of existence with Colóquio Internacional Negritude e Literatura (English: International Colloquium on Negritude and Literature). It will include bio-bibliographical and critical data; interviews; academic articles; a reference bank of sources for consulting academic works on the subject; and excerpts from the production of Afro-Brazilian, African and Afro-diasporic authors. The academics making presentations will include Aline Alves Arruda, Carmen Lucia Tindó Secco, Edimilson de Almeida Pereira, Eduardo de Assis Duarte, Gabriela Pilati, Giovanna Soalheiro, Gustavo Tanus, and Inocência Mata. They will be joined by Angolan writer João Melo as well as the Afro-Brazilians Conceição Evaristo, Cuti, Edimilson de Almeida Pereira, Luciany Aparecida, and Jeferson Tenório. The event will also feature a performance by slammer poet Nívea Sabino and a literary-musical presentation by Gabriela Pilati & Waldemar Euzébio. There will be book launches and sessions for writers to autograph books for fans.
