Brittlepaper, a pioneering platform that has been archiving African literary trends for the last decade, is celebrating its milestone with The Decade Project.
Brittlepaper was started by US-based Nigerian academic Ainehi Edoro-Glines as a new voice in an African literary space that was starting to show itself on the world stage in 2010. As platforms started and fell by the wayside, they stayed the course reimagining what they could do and become.
In the last ten years Brittlepaper, has grown to be part-news service, part-literary magazine, and part-anything-the-literary-business-needs-it-to-be at the time. Some of the most memorable additions in the last few years have been the Brittle Paper Awards, Notable African Books Person of the Year, and African Literary Person of the Year.
With the platform turning ten, the team has conceived what they call The Decade Project which outlines some of the changes that we have seen since they showed up. It has essays and interviews with personalities like Ben Okri, Taiye Selasi, Jama Musse Jama, Kalaf Epalanga, Chinelo Okparanta, Wale Lawal, Titilope Sonuga, Efe Paul Azino, Oyinkan Braithwaite and Wana Udobang. There have also been book giveaways, Instagram chats, events, and loads more showing just how vast the African literary community is today.
