The people in the running for the Burt Award, the richest prize in Kenyan literature at the moment, which is aimed at young adults have announced their 2015 nominees. The nominees for the 2015 Burt Award for African Literature which is run by the The National Book Development Council of Kenya are:
1) Charles Okoth – Manuscript title- A Close Shave, submitted by Phoenix publishers
2) Christopher Okemwa – Manuscript title- Sabina and the Ogre, submitted by Nsemia Inc. Publishers
3) Mark Mutali Chetambe– Manuscript title- Names and Secrets, submitted by East African Educational Publishers.
The order of these names as they appear has no bearing on the rankings of the Award.
The first edition of the awards was won by Anthony Mugo for his book Never Say Die. The 2013 award was won by Argwings Otieno for his book A Taste of fame while last year the award went to Elizabeth Kabui for her book Was Nyakeeru My Father.
The winner will be announced later in the year.
