Cape Town’s Open Book Festival 2019 announces this year’s guests.

Cape Town’s Open Book Festival 2019, which happens from September 4-8 this year, announced its featured guests on August 1, 2019.

The Open Book Festival, founded by Mervyn Sloman and Ben Williams, is an annual literary festival based in Cape Town, South Africa. It has hosted some of the most prominent writers in South Africa, on the continent and internationally since it was founded in 2011. Some of these are Zakes Mda, Mongane Wally Serote, Sefi Atta, Mũkoma Wa Ngũgĩ, Petina Gappah, NoViolet Bulawayo, Koleka Putuma, Teju Cole, Makhosazana Xaba, Ntone Edjabe, Angela Makholwa, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, Fiston Mwanza Mujila, Grace Musila, and Sindiwe Magona.

The festival this year will be hosted at its traditional home at The Fugard Theatre as well as at The District 6 Museum Homecoming Centre and The Book Lounge. The program, which promises five days full of fascinating and insightful conversations, thought-provoking debates and superb entertainment, will also have a launch of the New Daughters of Africa.

Some of the people who will feature are Sarah Ladipo Manyika, Sisonke Msimang, Yewande Omotoso, Barbara Boswell, Chigozie Obioma, Diane Awerbuck, Pumla Dineo Gqola, Fiona Snyckers, Fred Khumalo, Harry Garuba, Lauren Beukes, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, Nicole Dennis-Benn, Niq Mhlongo, Oyinkan Braithwaite, Masande Ntshanga, Mohale Mashigo, Philippa Namutebi Kabali-Kagwa, Efemia Chela, Ekow Duker,  Raphael D’Abdon, Refiloe Moahloli, and Shubnum Khan.
