Its official ladies. Nigerian writer Chigozie Obioma’s novel The Fishermen is the winner of the inaugural FT/OppenheimerFunds Emerging Voices Fiction Award.

Obioma beat other worthy candidates on the shortlist Kenya’s Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor for Dust and Rwanda’s Scholastique Mukasonga for Our Lady of the Nile.

Read the whole story about the triumph of the man from Nigeria from one of the richest new initiatives in world writing. I’m impressed.
