Chika Unigwe on Prix Fragonard 2022 Deuxième Selection

Chika Unigwe is on the deuxième selection for Prix Fragonard 2022 announced on Thursday, April 7, 2022.

French perfumer Fragonard announced Prix Fragonard, a new prize for women’s foreign literature, “A new female voice from elsewhere” this year. It was aimed at more visibility to foreign women’s literature, by supporting non-French-speaking authors as well as their translators.

For this the first edition, the jury comprises Agnès Costa, founder of the prize and co-director of Fragonard, Jakuta Alikavazovic, writer and translator, Élise Boghossian, founder of the NGO Elise Care, Danielle Cillien Sabatier, bookseller, Mathias Enard, writer, Alain Mabanckou, writer, Anna Mouglalis, actress, Alina Gurdiel, publishing communicator and collection director, and Charlotte Urbain, cultural attaché.

The works to be considered were written in a foreign language, translated into French and published in France between September 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022. The first selection was announced on March 24 before the second selection were revealed. The writer of African descent still in the running is;

The winner for the award will be feted at an award ceremony scheduled for mid-May. They will be endowed with 5000 euros for the author and 2000 for the translator. The company also offers an eight-day residency in Arles in the perfumer’s guest house.
