Djaïli Amadou Amal on Prix Goncourt 2020 longlist.

Djaïli Amadou Amal is on the longlist for the Prix Goncourt 2020 announced on September 15, 2020.

The Prix Goncourt is a prize in French literature, given by the French académie Goncourt to the author of “the best and most imaginative prose work of the year”. Four other prizes are also awarded: Prix Goncourt du Premier Roman (first novel), Prix Goncourt de la Nouvelle (short story), Prix Goncourt de la Poésie (poetry), and Prix Goncourt de la Biographie (biography). Moroccan-born Leila Slimani won the prize in 2016.

The Goncourt Academy, chaired by Didier Decoin, consists of Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Pascal Bruckner, Paule Constant, Patrick Rambaud, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Camille Laurens, Françoise Chandernagor, Philippe Claudel, and Pierre Assouline.

Djaïli Amadou Amal isn’t a new name to readers of this blog as the Cameroonian was the Orange Book Award in Africa 2019 winner.

The next two selections for the Goncourt 2020 Prize will take place on October 6 and 27 before the winner is announced on November 10.
