Writing Africa: Archiving African and Black Literature

Donald Molosi

Donald Molosi for New York, USA

Donald Molosi and Chinelo Okparanta will be making an appearance at The Mantle and Shakespeare & Co in New York, USA to read from their latest work and discuss the integral role history plays in their work.

We all love Donald on this side of the pond. Many of us were introduced to him at Writivism Festival earlier in the year when he did performances of his Philly Lutaaya play to mad applause. He followed on with the same performances in Nairobi at the Storymoja Festival.

Apart from stage, this guy is also doing cinema featuring in the forthcoming film “A United Kingdom” opposite David Oyelowo (Selma) and Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl). The film depicts the marriage of Prince Seretse Khama and Ruth Williams in the 1940s and the uniting of the people of Botswana.

The man recently showed that he wasn’t just about the stage and cinema when his story was announced in the longlist for Short Story Day Africa earlier this year.

Well ‘Merica you can now see this guy “live live” as some people on this side like saying on 19th November at The Mantle and Shakespeare & Co in New York. You don’t want to miss it as he will be reading “We Are All Blue” which consists of two award-winning plays by Molosi: “Blue, Black and White” and “Motswana: Africa, Dream Again.”

P.S. If you don’t know who I am talking about I suggest you check out his appearance on CNN Africa Voices where they saw his journey from Botswana onto the Broadway stage featuring on Fela.
P.P.S I know that Chinelo Okparanta will also be featuring at the event. That writer lives in the US and does a lot of readings there so you can catch her there quite often. Since she lives there and everything.
