The guests for Feira do Livro de Maputo 2023 which runs in Maputo, Mozambique from July 17 – 29, 2023 have been revealed.
Feira do Livro de Maputo (English: Maputo Book Fair) was first hosted by the Municipal Council of Maputo in the Mozambican capital in 2014. Since its first edition, it has become the leading festival driving the literary arts in the Southern African country. It has hosted numerous writers and poets, especially those who write in Portuguese, to book launches and readings, exhibitions, poetry recitals, and other events you would find at a literary fair/ festival targeted at both children and adults.
This year, the fair hosted at the Maputo Municipal Council atrium in Praça da Independência will have in-person and online components with players in the literature business, an exhibition, the sale of books, cultural activities, the launch of literary works, and much more. Its theme is “Get Up and Walk: literature in the Construction of Citizenship.”
Some of the featured guests are Mia Couto (Mozambique) the headliner alongside Hirondina Joshua (Mozambique), Mélio Tinga, David Bene, Francisco Noa (Mozambique), João Rasteiro (Portugal), Ana Paula Tavares (Angola), João Fernando André (Angola), Patricia Portela (Portugal), Simone Schmidt (Brazil), Ademar Seabra da Cruz Junior (Brazil), António Costa Moura (Portugal), Lourenço do Rosário (Mozambique), Cristiane Sobral (Brazil), Celso Muianga (Mozambique), Otildo Justino Guido (Mozambique), Luciana Brandão Leal (Brazil), Elisabeth Olegário (Brazil), and loads more.
The inaugural lecture will be given by Brazilian Angelo Oswaldo de Araújo Santos on how culture can transform our communities, preserving historical memory and valuing cultural heritage.
This year, the festival will revisit the life and work of the poet and nationalist Rui de Noronha an inspiring figure passionate about literature who passed away 80 years ago.
