Sami Tchak and Mamadou Samb won in their categories at Festival International de Littérature de Dakar 2023 in Dakar, Senegal on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
The first edition of Festival International de Littérature de Dakar (Filid) (English: Dakar International Literary Festival) was hosted in Dakar, Senegal in 2022. It was attended by writers, literary critics, publishers, men and women of culture, students, and journalists from across Senegal, and West Africa. It was followed by other editions in 2023 and 2024.
One of the festival’s unique offerings, under director Abdoulaye Fodé Ndione, is its annual literary prizes that celebrate the best in writing. These are Prix Abdoulaye Racine Senghor, Prix International De littéraire Cheikh Hamidou Kane, and Prix international de poésie Annette Mbaye d’Erneville. They have been won by Blaise Ndala (2022) and Khalil Diallo, Tanella Boni, and Mbarek Ould Beyrouk (2023).
Festival International de Littérature de Dakar 2024 was hosted in Dakar and ended on Saturday, June 1. On that day, we learnt the winners of the awards in the different categories were;
Prix Abdoulaye Racine Senghor
The Senegalese novel prize
- Les Larmes De La Reine, Mamadou Samb (Senegal)
Mamadou Samb said, “I dedicate this award to all my readers who follow me, to thank them very much for their appreciation, encouragement, support whenever I publish a literary work.”
Prix International De littéraire Cheikh Hamidou Kane
An award for a novel that has won several distinctions in honour of Senegalese writer Cheikh Hamidou Kane.
