Festival International du Livre Gabonais et des Arts 2023 starts May 24

Festival International du Livre Gabonais et des Arts (FILIGA) 2023 runs in Libreville, Gabon from May 24 – 26, 2023.  

Festival international du livre Gabonais et des arts (English: Gabonese International Festival of Books and the Arts) first ran in 2022. It was an initiative of the members of the Union of Gabonese Writers (UDEG) led by Rosny Le Sage Souaga, to celebrate culture and position books and the arts as intellectual emancipation products for young people. It was considered a success with guests from Gabon as well as Canada, France, Guinea Conakry, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Chad, Benin, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Congo Brazzaville, Congo Kinshasa, and Central African Republic taking part.

The second edition of the festival is will be hosted at the National Museum of Arts and Traditions in Libreville, the French Institute in Gabon and the Private Institute l’érudit d’OWendo. Those who attend the festival now under the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Gabon will be treated to book readings and signings, panels, book chats, writing workshops, exhibitions, and loads more.

Information about the events were shared in a press conference on Monday, May 22 where festival president Rosny Le Sage Souaga shared the theme for 2023.

“Thus, for this second edition, the generic theme is: “Literature and Ecology: Writing Nature on the Eve of Climate Upheavals”. Indeed, our cultural project aims to strengthen environmental education by including books and arts as means of awakening ecological consciousness. The issues of climate change are complex and one of the major challenges of the 21st century and the African youth is an important player in this fight as they are the symbol of future generations,” he said.

The guest of honour for 2023 will be the Kingdom of Morocco alongside guests from Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, DR Congo, Cameroon, France, Canada, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Central Africa Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Mali, Benin, Togo, Guinea, and South Africa. Some of the invited guests are Raymonde Moussavou, Steeve Robert Renombo, Guy Rossatanga-Rignault, Sanae Ghouati, Darchaly Mapangou, Amina Achour, Zakya Daoud, Aicha Bassry, Armel Nguimbi, Venant Debomane, Zachee Denis Bitjaa Kody, Emmanuelle Nguema Minko, Henri Djombo, Dieudonne Mouloungui Moussavou, Angèle Christine Ondo, Attié Djouid Djaralnabi, Tafsir Ndické Dièye, Diariatou Diallo, Aicha Diarra, Huppert Malanda, and many more.
