The Festival of African Literature 2025 with the theme “Literature Reimagined Through Diversity” runs in Abuja, Nigeria from January 29 – 30, 2025.
The Festival of African Literature, a celebration of African Cultural Heritage in Poetry, Prose, and Drama, will be hosted by the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization with the support of the Spine & Label in the Nigerian Capital. The Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization is a Nigerian parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Culture and Information. It is statutorily charged with the responsibility of promoting and propagating Black and African Cultural Heritage in its totality. It was established by Decree 69 of 1979 following the successful and epoch-making hosting of the 2nd World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC ’77). Spine & Label is a leading bookstore based in Abuja.
The festival will have book readings, storytelling performances, spoken word, dance drama, panel discussions, a book exhibition, and a workshop on creative writing at the Exhibition Pavillion of the International Conference Centre, Abuja starting on Wednesday morning. Some of the featured artists will be Richard Ali, Khalid Abdulkadir Isah, Nathaniel Bivan, Edify Yakusak, Mabel Itohanosa Erioyunvwen Evwierhoma, Dr Lizi Ben-Iheanacho, Denja Abdullahi, Ismail Bala, and Michaela Moye.
