The second edition of the Gauteng International Book Festival is set to be hosted in Soweto, South Africa on December 9, 2023.
In 2022, the Gauteng International Book Festival, founded by a team including literary evangelist Lorraine Sithole, announced itself on the African literary scene. South Africans who made their way to Ubuntu Kraal in Soweto to witness this new phenomenon were treated to literary events for both adults and children. The day had two headliners Dudu Busani-Dube and Fred Khumalo and a keynote address delivered by the multi-award winner, Dr. Nokuthula Mazibuko Msimang.
The organisers have announced that the festival will return to Soweto yet again this December. Here is a statement by Lorraine Sithole;
Last year we did a thing. We launched Gauteng International Book Festival and brought stories, books, and authors to Orlando West, Soweto.
The children’s programme was pure magic and featured 9 authors. The children were regaled by stories, munched on Happy Meals and each child left with a 5-book hamper to indulge in over the December holidays.
This year, siyayiphinda this imbizo (English: We repeat this call).
Save the date: 09 December 2023. Same place Ubuntu Kraal – Soweto
We shall share more information when it becomes available.
