Ghana Association of Writers Book Festival 2021, known as Gawbofest 2021, runs for two days from September 20-21, 2021. The theme for this year’s event is, “Empowering Ghana through Reading.”
The Ghana Association of Writers is one of the most storied on the continent with beginnings as far back as the foundation of the Young Men’s Literary Club on March 29, 1920. Since then, the organisation has had many iterations including the Pen and Paper Circle before settling on the name Ghana Association of Writers. The association conducts activities like award ceremonies to recognise the best writers in Ghana; here we capture 2018 and 2019 ceremonies. They also organize a host of activities like book launches, retreats, residencies, seminars, and even lobby authorities on their behalf of members.
The organisation will be hosting Gawbofest 2021, Ghana Association of Writers Book Festival 2021, from September 20-21, 2021. Gawbofest which will be running for the 10th time has, over the years, attracted renowned writers, diplomats, Members of Parliament, personalities in the arts and the creative industry, and students, among others. Activities held on the day will include; book readings, poetry recitals, storytelling, book signings, quizzes, cultural performances, brass band music, and face painting.
Ghana Association of Writers President Francis Gbormittah said in a press release that the opening ceremony for the festival would be on Monday with a panel discussion on creative writing and publishing in Ghana.
He said: “On Tuesday, we will hold GAW Young Writers Forum, as well as a panel discussion on e-book dynamics and apps in Ghana, book readings by GAW award winning authors, and a closing ceremony.”
Some of those who will feature are Martin Egblewogbe, Mariska Araba Taylor-Darko, Philomina Odi Mintah, Mariam French, Ohui Agbenyega Allotey, Asare Konadu Yamoah, Nana Elikem Aflakpui, John Akwasi Amponsah, Francis Gbormittah, and loads more.
The events will be running at PAWA House, Roman Ridge, Accra, Ghana. Below is the full schedule of events happening for the next two days.
