Hargeysa International Book Fair 2015 in August

The Hargeysa International Book Fair will be happening this year in Hargeysa, Somaliland from 1-6 August and the theme is “Spaces.” The guest country will be Nigeria.

The fair looks at all the spaces that are around us. These are all the spaces be they physical, spiritual, cultural, political, social, personal, space within the community, space within the family. This is why one of the featured guests, renowned Ghanaian architect Joe Addo who
trained at the Architectural Association in London, will come in handy.

Its a book fair so you can expect to see writers. As this year the festival guest county is Nigeria you can expect to meet some of that large West African country’s best writers. Those who will be there include Professor Niyi Osundare, Professor Nwando Achebe, Lola Shoneyin, Okey Ndibe,
Apart from these awesome folks, you will also be able to meet other non Nigerian guests like Nadifa Mohamed the author of Black Mamba Boy and The Orchid of Lost Souls (My review here). Also to feature are British–Eritrean writer and journalist Hannah Pool, University of London’s Dr Mpalive Msiska, human rights activist and campaigner Donia Jamal Adan, BBC’s Africa Editor Mary Harper, University of Djibouti’s Abdirascid Mahamed Ismail and University College London’s Michael Walls.
Also in the mix are Kenyans Phyllis Muthoni and Ciku Kimeria, Cameroonian Dzekashu MacViban, Djibouti’s Cabdalla Xaaji.

So you are in Hargeysa, Somaliland in the eight month of the year then I suggest you try that gig. Looks to be awesome.
