The Hargeysa International Book Fair 2024, the seventeenth edition, will be in hosted in Somaliland from July 20 – 25, 2024.
The Hargeysa International Book Fair was hosted in Hargeisa, Somaliland in 2008. Since then, it has become the biggest literary extravaganza on the Horn of Africa and one of the biggest on the continent. It has hosted some of the leading writers, journalists, academics, publishers, artists, journalists, and other professionals from dozens of nations in Africa and further afield.
One of the unique offerings for residents is that the majority of the events are conducted in the Somali language ensuring that the locals can take part fully. Another unique feature is that every year, there is a country partner of the fair that brings players from the publishing scenes of that country for locals to experience. This year’s partner country will be Tunisia. The festival theme is “Togetherness.”
