Author Henrietta Rose-Innes is a South African with four books to her credit. The first two of her books Shark’s Egg (2001) and The Rock Alphabet (2004) were published by Kwela Books. On her debut novel, Shark’s Egg J.M. Coetzee had this to say, “Henrietta Rose-Innes writes an admirably taut, clean prose. Shark’s Egg is a welcome addition to the new South African literature.” Not bad from the “popular” Nobel laureate.
She decided to stretch her wings after this and moved to Random House Struik imprint Umuzi Books and here she has so far had two books Homing (2010) and Nineveh (2011).
It’s been a very good 2015 for her. The author’s newest offering Green Lion is done and should be available to any lucky bugger who makes it to the Franschhoek Literary Festival in May.
This year she also won the François Sommer Literary Prize for the French translation of her book Ninive to Nineveh. The prize comes with a handy 15 000 Euros which isn’t bad in any one’s books.
She recently gave an illuminating, not to be confused in any way the illuminati, interview with our South African friends Books Live’s Jennifer Malec about win of the award and other things. You can read her full interview at Books Live.
