Huza Press/Goethe Institut Kigali Writing Residency shortlist announced.

The shortlist for the Huza Press/Goethe Institut Kigali Writing Residency has been announce today June 28, 2021.

Huza Press and the Goethe-Institut Kigali recently announced a new four-week writers’ residency to support writers as they complete or make significant advances with a work-in-progress novel manuscript. With this initiative, they stated that they were passionate about literature as a space for opening up conversations about gender, its modes of construction, histories, representation and relationality to power. Its theme was therefore writing gender.

The judging panel for the residency are author and academic Olumide Popoola, writer and academic Billy Kahora, author and blogger Jochen Konigg, and podcaster and academic Fabienne Imlinger. Today the shortlist of ten writers to be hosted in Kigali were announced and they are;

  • Cherrie Kandie
  • Doreen Anyango
  • Eugene Yakubu
  • Lauri Kubuitsile
  • Maryam Kazeem
  • Munira Hussein
  • Precious Colette Kemigisha
  • Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu
  • TJ Benson

There is also a component of those from Germany who will take part in this program and they are;

  • Chrizzi Heinen
  • Dominic Wendland
  • Julia Host
  • Katharina Bendixen
  • Kevin Junk
  • Nannina Matz
  • Sarah Kessler
  • Sebastian Stuertz

The winners of the residency will be announced in due course before they attend the residency in September.
