Images from Saah Millimono’s Boy Interrupted launch in Liberia

April 24 was a special day for Liberian author Saah Millimono as this was the day that his baby aka debut novel Boy Interrupted would be seen by the world. The book is the second from the Kwani Manuscript Project after Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi’s Kintu which has gotten rave reviews and runs out of stock in Aristoc Kampala as soon they land.

So would Boy Interrupted be doing the same amount of delirious joy with Liberians and the rest of us when we finally have it on our bookshelves? The first official experience of the book happened on the second last Friday of April at The Market Place, Carey & Nelson Streets, Monrovia, Liberia.
Boy Interrupted is a searing, heartbreaking love story set in the civil war years in Liberia. The writer introduced the book in conversation with the writer of The Lazarus Effect (my review)and part of the Africa39 list Hawa Jande Golakai. The event was attended by a cross-section of Monrovia residents from the young to the older ones including Llord Aidoo the President of the Liberian Association of Writers.
