Abuja International Poetry Festival 2024

Inaugural Abuja International Poetry Festival starts November 14

The inaugural edition of the Abuja International Poetry Festival, with the theme “Afro Futurism and Digital Culture,” runs in the Nigerian capital from November 14 – 16, 2024.

The first edition of the new Abuja International Poetry Festival 2024 will be curated by the Bentex Torlafia-founded Nasara Creative in November. It will be done in partnership with The African School of Economics, Abuja Literary Society, Jeje Riders, Spine & Label Bookshop, Konya Shamsrumi, and All Africa Intellectual Property Rights Summit- Rwanda 2024, amongst others.

The new festival promises to be a cultural mix and safe space for poets, dreamers, researchers, intellectuals, and adventurers through Knowledge Diffusion Sessions, Poetry Master Classes, A Village of Languages, Panels/Readings and Feedback Sessions, a Poetry Concert, a Poetry Party (poems apostle should not hear) and a Ride-for-Climate-Change activity with Jeje Riders.

The theme “Afro Futurism and Digital Culture” will celebrate the meaning and measure of what it means to be an African Poet in the matrix of a digital revolution; what it means when it is said, that magic happens where Art & Technology intersect across various venues within the city of Abuja.

The guest list includes Prof E.E.Sule, Richard Ali, Itiola Jones, Caroline Brennan, Abubakar Sidi, BM Dzukogi, and many more. The festival’s Poetry Slam is named after the poet, notable cultural worker, and founder of the Lagos International Poetry Festival, Efe Paul Azino.

The festival’s opening and closing events will be hosted at the International Conference Centre, Garki, Abuja. For more information on this event, please try their official website or Instagram account.
