The Thika Book Fair with the theme “Reading and Sharing Information for a Better Future” will be hosted from January 31 – February 2, 2025.
Thika is an industrial town and commerce hub in Kiambu County, Kenya, 42 kilometres, northeast of Nairobi, near the confluence of the Thika and Chania Rivers. It hasn’t been universally known for its contributions to the East African country’s literary community until the emergence of the Kendeka Prize for African Literature in 2020 which has since been discontinued.
The organisers of the defunct prize have announced a new initiative they call the Thika Book Fair to be hosted at the Ananas Mall. The new event will include lectures, book readings, and launches as well as workshops from Adipo Sidang, Zachary Kabera, and Muthoni Wa Gichuru, among others.
Book publishers, primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, and other education-related entities are expected to exhibit and attend the events will all be free.
