Ingcayizivele Book Festival

Ingcayizivele Book Festival for Mpumalanga

The inaugural edition of the Ingcayizivele Book Festival will be hosted in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, South Africa on Saturday, September 30, 2023. The festival theme is “telling our own stories.”

In 2014, Bobo Lukhele and Mpumi Mbethe started the BookHive book club where they and other readers would meet at different venues once a month to socialise and discuss all things literary. The project has since grown to become a registered non-profit organisation aimed at encouraging disadvantaged children and young people to read. They set up BookHive Mobile Bookshop that helps new and self-publishing authors enter the market from Mbombela and other activities to support literacy in their community.

The BookHive’s most ambitious undertaking is the new Ingcayizivele Book Festival which will happen in Mbombela on Saturday. The term Ingcayizivele means “original” or “unique” in isiZulu and there will be activities for people of all ages from children, teens, young adults, and adults. The first edition will include panels, readings, and lots more.
