Iris Mwanza for Lagos on June 21

Iris Mwanza will present her debut novel, The Lion’s Den, in Lagos, Nigeria, on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

Iris Mwanza is a Zambian-American international lawyer, gender equality advocate, and a rising literary voice. With degrees from Cornell and Johns Hopkins, her career spans global institutions like the World Bank and the Gates Foundation. Her debut novel, The Lion’s Den, follows rookie lawyer Grace Zulu, whose first client, Willbess ‘Bessy’ Mulenga goes missing in 1990s Zambia. The Canongate-published novel, listed among Time Magazine’s 100 Must Reads of 2024, is a moving story of prejudice, corruption, injustice, courage, and solidarity that shows us that no cause is ever a lost one. Since its publication, Mwanza has been presenting her novel with launches in London, Johannesburg, New York, and a virtual event with the Kenyan bookstore Cheche Books.

On Saturday, June 21, it will be the time for Lagos as she is hosted at the Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi. The event will feature an author keynote and book signing, with attendees also having the opportunity to network at the event, starting at 3 pm, and the accompanying cocktail reception.
