The Calabash International Literary Festival returns to Kingston, Jamaica from May 26 – 28, 2023.
The Calabash International Literary Festival, which runs every two years, was founded by novelist Colin Channer, poet Kwame Dawes, and Justine Henzell in 2001. Since its beginning, it has hosted some of the biggest names in world literature including the late Nobel laureate Sir Derek Walcott, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Marlon James, Salman Rushdie, Zadie Smith, and Ngugi Wa Thiong’o.
The festival returns after Covid 19 break this year with the usual offering of book launches, readings of poetry and prose, panels, exhibitions, screenings, and loads more. On offer is also evening performances of poetry as well as music.
Some of the featured guests this year will be Linton Kwesi Johnson, Namwali Serpell, Olive Senior, Kei Miller, Yvonne Bailey-Smith, Margaret Busby, Staceyann Chin, Taiye Selasi, Mateo Askaripour, Maisy Card, Kwame Dawes, Jonathan Escoffery, Curdella Forbes, Yona Harvey, Alecia McKenzie, and many more.
