Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature Winners 2013

The Jomo Kenyatta Literature Prize happened in Nairobi on Saturday evening at the Intercontinental Hotel. This is one of the most respected awards in the country. They started in 1974 then took a break and restarted in 1990 and are sponsored by Text Book Centre.

Prizes are given for three categories – Adult, Youth, and Children – in English and Swahili. The prize winners in each of the prizes make Kshs150,000 for the adult category and Kshs75,000 for the other two. Here is the full list of winners;

Adult – Prize money Kshs150,000 each

English Henry Ole Kulet for Vanishing Herds published by Longhorn

Kiswahili Tom Olali for Watu wa Gehenna published by JKF

Youth – Prize money Kshs75,000 each

English David Mulwa for We come in peace published by Oxford,

Kiswahili Patrick W. Kuloba for Mambo Kangaja published by JKF

Children – Prize money Kshs75,000 each

English Kap Kirwok for I blame the sky published by EAEP

Kiswahili Rebecca Nandwa for Nimefufuka published by Longhorn
