Kalahari Short Stories Competition seeks entries in French, English, and Kiswahili.

The Kalahari Short Stories Competition, organised by La Cene Littéraire, seeks entries in French, English and Kiswahili. It was officially opened today May 20, 2020.

La Cene Littéraire is an organisation founded by Swiss lawyer Ngoãn Beti to celebrate the best in African writing. It hands out the Prix Les Afriques to an African or writer of African descent who has written fiction highlighting a human, societal, ideological, political, cultural, economic or historical issue related to Africa or its diaspora annually. It has been won by Elnathan John (2019), Kei Miller (2018), Abdelaziz Baraka Sakin (2017), and Hemley Boum (2016).

The organisation has today unveiled a new initiative for writers producing in Kiswahili, French or English who have not written a full-length book. There is no specific type of writing sought as all genres are accepted including realistic, historical, psychological, fantasy, science fiction, etc.

The prize will be judged by Neema Mturo, Lello Mmasy, and Elias Mutani in Kiswahili; Armand Gauz, Hélène Tissières, Aurore Foukissa, Philippe Bonvin, Astrid Aïdolan-Ague and Flora Agnes Nda Zoa in French; and Elnathan John, Caoilinn Hughes, and May-Ian Tan in English. In October, they will select three winners in each language category with the following cash prizes attached; winner 1000 Euros, runner up 500 Euros, and 300 Euros to the third.
