Mbozi Haimbe, Lionel Ntasano, Austin Kaluba, and Chobela Ndilila will judge this year’s edition of the Kalemba Short Story Prize 2023.
The Kalemba Short Story Prize is awarded annually to the best work of original and unpublished short fiction written in English by a Zambian administered and funded by Ukusefya Words. Previous winners have been Mali Kambandu (2018), Mubanga Kalimamukwento (2019), and Rhodasi Mwale (2020).
The 2023 cycle of the prize started when the longlisted short story writers were announced in May. Those who made the cut were invited to participate in a masterclass delivered by an expert in fiction and short-story writing.
The team organising the prize has now announced the following jury;
- Austin Kaluba (Zambia) – Chair
- Mbozi Haimbe (Zambia) – Commonwealth Short Story Writer 2019 winner.
- Lionel Ntasano (Burundi)
- Chobela Ndilila (German-Zambia).
The entries will be judged on imagination, verbal skills, originality, and style.
We look forward to the shortlists and winners being unveiled in due course.
