Kenyan Readathon 2025

Kenyan Readathon 2025 to start in March.

The sixth edition of the Kenyan Readathon, in an announcement shared on Wednesday, January 15, is set to kick off in March.

The Kenyan Readathon is a month-long reading marathon celebrating Kenyan literature started by book activist Lexa Lubanga in 2020. In that first year, the initiative asked Kenyans to read writers from their country and share their progress on Social Media in September. Since then, the series which started as a virtual celebration expanded to include a physical event while also encouraging people to share their reading in more than one month.

On Wednesday, the organisers announced on their Twitter/X page that the 2025 series will start in March. The statement in full read;

Welcome to the 6th edition of the Kenyan Readathon!

We are thrilled to kick off this exciting literary journey as early as March this year. September, while a wonderful month for reading, often feels too brief to fully immerse oneself in the vast and rich landscape of Kenyan literature. That’s why we are delighted to introduce a new reading schedule that allows you to delve into Kenyan works throughout the months leading up to September, encouraging you to read as much as possible.

For those participating for the first time, the Kenyan Readathon is a month-long reading marathon dedicated to celebrating and promoting Kenyan literary voices. Initially held only in September, the event invites readers from around the globe to focus exclusively on books authored by Kenyan writers. As you read, we encourage you to share your progress and insights with others in the community using the hashtag #kenyanreadathon. Join us in exploring the richness of Kenyan stories and voices this year!

So there you have it. Starting in March, you are asked to start sharing your Kenyan reads on Social Media. Yes, even on Red Note.
