Kenyans honour Prof Chris Wanjala in Nairobi.

The late Prof Chris Wanjala was honoured by the artistic community with a colourful event at the Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi on Monday October 22, 2018.

Prof Chris Wanjala was one of the most recognisable names in the Kenyan literary community having spent many years as a professor at the University of Nairobi and the Egerton University. The university don passed on this past Monday on October 15, 2018.

Prof Wanjala influenced many people over his over seventy years on earth and some of them pitched up at the Kenya National Theatre on Monday October 22. The event emceed by journalist, writer and sometime politico Kingwa Kamencu was convened by George Orido who worked with the late don at the Sanaa Theatre Awards.

It was an all-encompassing event with speeches from those who knew him including Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Ezekiel Mutua, Book Development Council of Kenya CEO Ruth Odondi, Alex Wanjala on behalf of the family, and more.

He was a don in the performing arts so there were performances including poetry from Zippy Okoth who runs the Lake International Film Festival, journalist Tony Mochama, and Peter Onyancha. Also performing were the Kenya Boys Choir and comedians from the Churchill Show like 2Mbili as well as Creative Generation (Mchungaji, Mtumishi).
