Kikwetu Flash Fiction Contest 2023 longlist announced

The longlist for the Kikwetu Flash Fiction Contest 2023 was announced on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Kikwetu is an online literary journal that publishes both new and established writers from East Africa and beyond in English and Swahili founded in 2015. In 2023, the journal unveiled a new contest for writers to send out their best flash fiction which was one by Moses Abukutsa.

The longlists for 2023 have been announced and those in the running are;

  • The Cat Came Calling, Patrick Ochieng
  • Cul-de-sac, Isaac Kilibwa
  • Man of the House, Prosper C. Ìféányí
  • A Drowsy Worship, Naomi Nduta Waweru
  • Do Not Pop the Pimples on Your Face, Naomi Nduta Waweru
  • My Wife’s Gaffe, Andrew Nyongesa
  • Valentine, Miriam Amoit
  • Uloma, Ubong Johnson
  • The Red Peg, Lynn Nyaera Onywere
  • A Basket Full of Spilled Water, Chiemeziem Everest Udochukwu

The finalists and winner who will receive a cash prize of $150 will be announced in the coming weeks.
