Kismayo Book Fair 2019 sends condolences for Hodan Nalayeh.

The Kismayo Book Fair 2019 sent condolences to the family and friends of their delegate Hodan Nalayeh who died in a terrorist attack on July 12, 2019.

Hodan Nalayeh was a Somali-Canadian media executive, marketing consultant, social activist and entrepreneur. She served as a producer on a number of TV shows, including American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. In 2017, Nalayeh came back to Somalia from Canada and founded the Somali-dedicated YouTube channel Integration TV to tell stories from her country.

 

On July 12, the Medina hotel in Kismayo, Jubaland, Somalia, was attacked by gunmen who were members of the Al Shabaab terrorist group and at least twenty six people killed. Nalayeh and her husband were among those who died in this horrible attack.

One of the last events that Hodan Nalayeh attended before her unfortunate demise was the Kismayo Book Fair 2019 as one of the delegates. The book fair, acknowledging their delegate gave the following statement to condole with her family and friends on their Facebook.

As a #Kismayu book fair team, we send our deepest condolences to all the Somali people, particularly families, relatives and friends who have lost their loved ones in the Friday’s terrorists attack at Madenina Hotel Kismayo town. #Hodan Naleye, a prominent journalist and widely known social activist who attended the recently concluded #KBF2019, is among the killed. She is not aware (of) the cause of her killing and the killer may be cannot explain why? Words cannot express the sorrow and how worried we are. We pray for all the deceased to be granted Jantul Firdaws and quick recovery for the injured. INA LILAHI WA INA ILAYHI RAJICUN.
