The Kistrech International Poetry Festival 2024 runs in venues around Kenya from September 27 – October 4, 2024.
The Kistrech International Poetry Festival was founded to promote poetry and cultural exchange between local and foreign artists by Dr Christopher Okemwa in 2013. The annual festival features spoken-word, rap, song, poetry reading, oral poetry, music instrument-playing, and other performances.
Those who attend this year, the twelfth edition, can expect to find many events in different venues around Kenya to keep them engaged. It will be the third major literary gathering in the country after the Macondo Literary Festival (September 20 – 22) and the Nairobi International Book Fair (September 25 – 30).
Some of the scheduled local poets are Ng’anga Mbugua, Prof. Jane Wangari Mwai, Dr. Miriam Musonye, Nyamwaro Malenga, Dr. Alfred Nyamwange, Dr. Peter Otieno Nyansera, Prof. Imali Abala, Moraa Tham, and Dr. Christopher Okemwa. The international contingent will have Prof. Timothy Wangusa (Uganda), Susan Kiguli (Uganda), Quinsy Gario (South Africa), Prof. Dike Okoro (Nigeria), Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo (Nigeria), Karla Brundage (USA), Kevin Dublin (USA), Rosemarie Wilson (USA), Dimitris Stamiris (Greece), Gurgenc Korkmazel (Greece), Priya Bains (Norway), Bendik Vada (Norway), Tone Hødnebø (Norway), Marie Blay (Canada), Laurie Anna Babin (Canada). Tereza Riedlbauchová (Czech Republic), Marianne Larsen (Denmark), Salim Abdali (Denmark), Rolando Kattan (Honduras), Marta Eloy Cichocka (Poland), Sergio A. - Tuesday, October 1: Gusii Villages
- Wednesday, October 2: Kisii University
- Thursday, October 4: Maasai Mara National Reserve.
