Koffi Addo Writivism Prize for Creative Non Fiction 2017 goes continental

The Koffi Addo Writivism Prize for Creative Non Fiction 2017 has made its second call out for submissions. This year, as opposed to the first one when it was only for Ghanaians, the call out is for all Africans. The 2017 prize judging panel comprises EC Osondu (Chair), Angela Kintu and Panashe Chigumadzi.

In 2016, our friends from Writivism introduced a new prize called the Koffi Addo Writivism Prize for Creative Non Fiction. The prize was named after Nana Koffi Addo a Ghanaian who was born on 6th May 1921 in Abetifi, Kwahu and passed on, the 2nd of December 2011. He had numerous articles published in various magazines and left behind 3 unpublished manuscripts including “Guidance for Young Women”. The winner for that edition of the competition was S.Y Tetteh an Accra based yoga instructor for her piece Lost Futures Or: A Guide to Losing Love.

In this year’s edition of the competition, they have been opened it out to the whole continent; if you are one for creative nonfiction then this one is for you. So what to you need to know? First the prize. The winner of the prize will be awarded $500 (USD) cash and may be considered for a one month writing residency at a university in an African country. Short listed writers may be invited to attend the annual Writivism Festival in Kampala, Uganda, from August 24 – 27, 2017.

For you to enter, you must be unpublished writers (unpublished here means those who have not had a book published), resident in an African country. Questions of eligibility shall be resolved by the CACE administration and their decision is final.

Entries must be submitted online, by emailing them to info@writivism.com as attachments (not in the body email), clearly labeled in the subject: Koffi Addo Prize. All entries must be in English, and 2,500 – 3,500 words long.

Only one entry per writer may be submitted for the Koffi Addo Writivism Prize for Non Fiction. The story must be original and previously unpublished in any form (including on the writer’s personal blog).
