Koleka Putuma announces poetry collection “Collective Amnesia” as an audiobook.

Koleka Putuma announced that her debut poetry collection Collective Amnesia will be available as an audiobook from October 7 on September 30, 2020.

Koleka Putuma is an award-winning poet of the bestselling debut poetry collection Collective Amnesia (2017). The collection awarded the Glenna Luschei Prize for African Poetry was also designated the 2017 book of the year by City Press and one of the best books of 2017 by The Sunday Times and Quartz Africa. It has been translated into several languages including Spanish, German, and Danish.

The poet who is also a playwright and theatre director has been at the forefront of getting her work to new audiences to ensure that she diversifies her income. No Easter Sunday For Queers is a hugely successful play written from one of the poems in the debut collection that ran with packed houses in Johannesburg in 2019.

Apart from being featured in campaigns by corporations, she has also given fans an opportunity to show their support for her brand with merchandise. She has a shop where you can buy t-shirts, tote bags and more with messages like “You Owe Your Dreams Your Courage;” “every three hours one of us doesn’t make it”; and “I don’t want to die with my hands up or my legs open.”

She isn’t just showing us all how to get the bag with the moves she is making though. The Cape Town resident launched a relief fund [BLACK GIRL LIVE] to assist black, queer, womxn Theatre Practitioners and Poets based in South Africa who are struggling financially, psychologically, and spiritually during this time. The enterprising South African announced that her beloved book Collective Amnesia will now be available to the public as an audiobook starting on October 7. The eagerly awaited announcement was made on the Cheeky Natives Podcast hosted by Dr Alma-Nalisha Cele and Letlhogonolo Mokgoroane.
