Les Auteurs de Martinique’s Festilivres 2025, with the theme “LAM writes for you,” kicked off in the Caribbean island on October 6 and will continue until October 25.
Les Auteurs de Martinique (Authors of Martinique) (LAM) was founded by “S.A.J.,” namely: Sabine Andrivon-Milton, Arlette Pujar, and Jala in 2017. It evolved into an association to create a community for authors from Martinique to meet readers, share their work, and promote literary events such as book signings and meetups in 2022. LAM now brings together 60 authors, both published and self-published, in all genres from children’s publications, novels, essays, life stories, comics, frescoes, games, self-esteem, history, poetry, short stories, tales, and songs.
In 2022, LAM, alongside Office de la Culture du Lamentin (OCL), started Festilivres, a literary festival bringing together writers with their fans in the Caribbean nation. It celebrated books and reading for all ages, uniting authors and readers across Martinique. It is now a major cultural event promoting local literature, Creole culture, and social harmony through storytelling, poetry, theatre, and workshops.
The 2025 edition of Festilivres has been ongoing throughout Martinique, in municipalities, media libraries, schools, nursing homes, bookstores, and more. The first phase started from October 6 – 13 in participating schools, before the second phase for adults from October 9 – 25, with events scheduled for media libraries, nursing homes, and participating shopping centers. The bookstore tour to locations like Cultura Californie, Kazabul, and Rond-Point de la Presse will be conducted from October 13 – 24. The first collective book by LAM authors will be released during this festival.
The official opening ceremony hosted at Gardens of the Office de la Culture du Lamentin (OCL) included activities like Coloring and Kreol Quiz, JALA Workshop, “Words, Rhymes, and Tales” sessions, Three-voice skit performances, a “No to Violence” campaign, Boutik An Tan Lontan (Old-Time Shop), and book sales and author signings on October 11.
