Leye Adenle, Mukoma Wa Ngugi to judge Nigeria’s Syncity NG anthology. (Nigeria only)

Leye Adenle and Mukoma Wa Ngugi are the judges for a new anthology by Nigerian literary blog Syncity NG.

Syncity NG founded by Mystique Syn Osuchukwu is a platform that showcases the best of African literature to the world. It started off as a regular multi-topic blog but embraced literature as their niche in February 2018 covering literary events and book festivals.

As the platform celebrates one year, the team has decided to do it like any serious bibliophile run organisation… by publishing an anthology with prizes on offer. These prizes are open to writers of any nationality living in Nigeria and they are:

• First prize: ($55) N20,000 and 1 hour with our guest judge.
• Second prize: ($14) N5,000 and a book gift (paperback).
• Third prize: Free professional editing of one short story of the writer’s choice, and a book gift (paperback).
• Fourth and fifth prizes: One paperback each.

The contest is guest judged by Leye Adenle and Mukoma Wa Ngugi. Leye Adenle is the man behind the two crime fiction titles that are Easy Motion Tourist (2016) and When Trouble Sleeps (2018). Mukoma Wa Ngugi, on the other hand, is the author of three works of fiction in Nairobi Heat (our review), Black Star Nairobi (our review), and Mrs Shaw (our review); two poetry collections Logotherapy and Hurling Words at Consciousness; and nonfiction in The Rise of the African Novel: Politics of Language, Identity, and Ownership and Conversing with Africa: Politics of Change.

Deadline for submissions is midnight 28 February 2019. They will announce a long list of 10 writers in Mid-March, and release the anniversary anthology alongside with the winners’ announcement in April.
